I followed a forum tip and deleted the files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/removed my network from /etc/ wpa_then rebooted. This gives me one fresh chance to try to connect using WPA before its changed back to WEP. I'm sorry, I don't have any ideas, but since it seems that the hardware works, maybe we could get a mod to move this to the Networking section so the wifi experts can try to help.... That can be checked by connecting manually with wpa_supplicant dhcpcd (or dhclient) and checking for error messages, of course this should be done in the cli so it is possible to see the complete [email protected] thank you for that lecture and assuming that people are morons. It appears that the problem is WEP, at least for me.– Installed using synaptic and the ubuntu quantal (12.10) repos: wicd‑daemon, wicd‑gtk, python‑wicd.– Configured the Wi Fi network in wicd with correct SSID and WPA2 password data.

– Wi Fi access point with a strong (over 80%) signal.

The configure menu in control center then reverts to WEP and every time you change it to WPA/WPA2 preshared key if you open it again it says WEP. No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.

I get the same "revert to WEP' if I remove the wlan0 connection and set up a new network interface.

As the wiki states, WEP should be used for testing, which is what I was doing. Will try later to connect manually with wpa_supplicant dhcpd and also deleting the profile.

If I try to connect manually using wpa_supplicant with that file I get a "No suitable network found" error.
